Our approach

Stay active, stay independent

At BritChiro New Milton, our chiropractors are passionate about helping people with osteoarthritic pain improve their mobility, reduce pain, and maintain their independence. Our goal is to help you move more comfortably so you can continue enjoying the activities that matter most to you.

Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis and affects millions of people in the UK. It occurs when the cartilage which cushions the ends of the bones gradually changes over time, leading to joint pain, stiffness, and reduced movement. Although it is more common with age, osteoarthritis can also develop following ‘old’ injuries, repetitive strain, sporting activities or occupations that place increased stress on the joints.

  • Comprehensive assessment — with on-site digital X-Ray when clinically needed
  • Gentle chiropractic adjustments when appropriate, joint mobilisation and soft tissue therapy
  • Practical advice on posture, activity modification and long-term self-management

Symptoms — and how we assess them

Common symptoms of osteoarthritic pain include:

  • Joint pain during or after activity
  • Morning stiffness, or stiffness after periods of immobility
  • Reduced flexibility or range of movement
  • Swelling around affected joints
  • Difficulty with everyday activities such as walking, bending, or climbing stairs

At your initial consultation, your chiropractor will carry out a comprehensive assessment, review your medical history, and where appropriate consider whether X-Rays need to be taken (at BritChiro New Milton, we have on-site digital X-Ray facilities). This allows us to determine a precise diagnosis, decide whether chiropractic care is suitable for your condition, and develop a personalised treatment plan adapted specifically to you.

Our approach to osteoarthritis treatment may include gentle chiropractic adjustments when appropriate, joint mobilisation, soft tissue therapy, and practical advice on posture, activity modification, and long-term self-management. The aim is to reduce pain, improve joint mobility, enhance function, and help you remain as active as possible.

For many years, BritChiro New Milton has helped thousands of people from New Milton, Barton-on-Sea, Highcliffe, Milford-on-Sea, Christchurch and the New Forest area find relief from osteoarthritic pain and other joint-related conditions.

“After putting up with painful arthritis for quite a few years… I am now pain free and although the arthritis is still there, I no longer feel the effects of it… To top it off, I no longer need to take painkillers!”

“I went to many doctors and specialists and they all said that it’s possibly to do with wear and tear that body gives us as we age… after 2 weeks of intensive treatment I started feeling much better.”

Osteoarthritis FAQs

Questions people ask about osteoarthritis

If you’re wondering about anything else, just give us a call — we’re happy to help.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. Chiropractors are primary healthcare practitioners, so you can book directly with us — many GPs actually refer their patients to our clinic. Most private health insurance providers cover all or part of the cost of treatment. Please check your individual policy.

Will I need an X-Ray?

Only if it will genuinely help. Our on-site digital X-Ray can refine your diagnosis, providing detailed information about specific areas of your spine and your condition. We’ll always discuss it with you first — and only take images when there’s a clear clinical reason.

Will treatment hurt?

Treatment involves precise adjustments of specific joints, and these are typically painless. With osteoarthritis we use gentle techniques when appropriate, including joint mobilisation and soft tissue therapy. Your chiropractor will explain everything before starting.

What if chiropractic isn’t right for my osteoarthritis?

We’ll tell you straight. If your examination suggests you’d be better cared for elsewhere, we’ll explain why, refer you to your GP or an appropriate specialist, and — where helpful — write a short report to guide you to the right care.

Patients travel to us from Christchurch, Milford-on-Sea and Lymington for osteoarthritis care — and from right across the New Forest:

Stiff and sore today? Don’t put up with it
